Prayers for a Successful Pilgrimage
The idea of a KFR pilgrimage was first conceptualised by H.E. Tsem Rinpoche in June 2018 as a powerful method for inner and outer healing. The original pilgrimage included five holy sites – Lama Tsongkhapa, Buddha Nageshvaraja, Loma Gyonma, Green Tara and Manjushri Nagaraksa followed by a final dedication at Lama Tsongkhapa. Alternatively, you may opt to do the full pilgrimage, also known as the Holy Walk which covers the following sites:
- Lama Tsongkhapa
- Dorje Shugden
- Vajrayogini Stupa
- Buddha Nageshvaraja
- 4-Arm Manjushri
- Tsem Rinpoche’s Cabin
- Loma Gyonma
- Green Tara
- Manjushri Nagaraksa
- Gyenze Chapel
The KFR pilgrimage should be done on foot for those who are physically able. It is also recommended to refrain from idle talk during the activity.
Preliminary Prayers
Before embarking on the pilgrimage proper, these are some recommended prayers to set the correct motivation and increase the merits accumulated from this virtuous activity. You can recite these in front of Lama Tsongkhapa at Wisdom Hall.
Multiplying Mantra
If you recite this mantra seven times in the morning, all the good things you do during that day, including recitation of mantras, will be multiplied by 100,000 times.
OM SAMBHARA SAMBHARA VIMANA SARA MAHA JAVA HUNG
OM MARA MARA VIMANA SARA MAHA JAVA HUNG (7x)
Blessing the Rosary
Recite this mantra seven times then blow onto your rosary and rub it lightly to increase the power of your recitation.
OM RUTSIRA MANI PRAWA TAYA HUNG (7x)
Blessing the Feet
Recite this mantra three times then spit on the soles of your feet. By doing this, any insects you may accidentally kill that day by stepping on them will be reborn in the god realm, the Realm of Thirty-Three.
OM KHE TSARA GHANA HUM HRI SOHA (3x)
Taking Refuge
NAMO GURU BEH
NAMO BUDDHA YA
NAMO DHARMA YA
NAMO SANGHA YA (3x)
I take refuge in the Guru
I take refuge in the Buddha
I take refuge in the Dharma
I take refuge in the Sangha (3x)
Generating Bodhicitta
SANG GYE CHO DANG TSOG KYI CHOG NAM LA
JANG CHUB BAR DU DAG NI KYAB SU CHI
DAG GI JIN SOK GYI PAY SO NAM KYI
DRO LA PAN CHIR SANG GYE DRUB PAR SHOG (3x)
I take refuge until I am enlightened in the Buddhas, the Dharma and the Sangha. By the positive potential I create by practising generosity and the other far-reaching attitudes, may I attain Buddhahood in order to benefit all sentient beings. (3x)

and especially may the essential teachings of the unerring master Tsongkhapa,
become clear and enduring.
Mantra Recitation
Now you may begin the pilgrimage by circumambulating seven times clockwise around Lama Tsongkhapa and reciting his mantra (Migtsema). When you arrive at each subsequent holy site, it is recommended to recite the mantra of that particular Buddha while circumambulating seven times in a clockwise direction. The exception is at the Vajrayogini Stupa, as you may only recite her mantra if you have received her initiation. Those without initiation can recite their Guru’s mantra or any other Buddha’s mantra.
You may also offer candles and incense at each holy site while reciting OM AH HUM. When walking from one site to another, it is recommended to recite Migtsema.
